Position Summary: The nurse practitioner or physician assistant (NPPA) works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team. The NPPA will function as an Intensivist within the critical care unit and manage patientsâ?? care from the time of admission through the time of transfer. The critical care unit has 26 beds and has Intensivist MDs staffed 7 days a week, several NPPA-Intensivist working each day, and eICU capabilities. The NPPA-Intensivist has a strong foundation in evidenced based practice and has a responsibility to ensure safe quality care is provided to each and every patient. The NPPA-Intensivist demonstrates an advanced level of medical knowledge, clinical and technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and maintaining competency. This job is a 24/7 position and requires days, nights and weekends.
Responsibilities: Provides comprehensive direct and indirect patient care in the outpatient and inpatient settings across the continuum of care. Communicates with physicians regarding changes in patientâ??s clinical condition; results of diagnostic studies; and patient symptomatology as appropriate. In response to changes in patient condition; quickly, accurately and effectively modifies therapeutic interventions to promote optimal health status. Conducts staff and patient education to promote wellness and prevention of health problems. Develops resources and communicates knowledge to members of healthcare team, patients, and their family members. The American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics for Nurses provide for a basis for practice for the nurse practitioner. The National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants and American Academy of Physician Assistants provides guidelines for Physician Assistant practice.
