Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Equipment Specialist.
In this role, the successful candidate Position Summary: The Clinical Equipment Specialist (CES) provides clinical support and performs monitoring and evaluation of electronic surgical systems and associated equipment during surgical procedures with members of the health care team The CES is expected to practice within the established Hospital Standards; to have knowledge, understanding and acceptance of the Division of Nursing Philosophy and Standards; and to adhere to the Intensive Caring Value Statements. Participates in leadership meeting with the rest of the OR leadership team. Discusses with all OR team leaders and leadership all equipment that requires immediate attention. This includes checking the availability of electronic devices, instrumentation, and all related patient related information or scans required for scheduled cases. Any deficiencies should be identified and corrected to minimize any potential delays in the operating room. Job Responsibilities: - Assists OR staff with the setup and clinical operation of various electronic surgical devices to include all surgical navigation systems, intraoperative imaging devices, surgical lasers, robotics, video systems, microscopes, electrosurgical devices, suction devices, and various other systems.
- Anticipating downstream effect on OR rooms and procedures based on malfunctioned equipment and makes recommendation to leadership for closing of ORs and/or delaying scheduled procedures.
- The CES will constantly monitor system performance of surgical devices in use and will identify and trouble shoot any issues that arise quickly and efficiently. The CES will be available to troubleshoot any other clinical electronic issues that may arise in the OR on an as needed basis. Demonstrates understanding of all job responsibilities and uses appropriate knowledge and skills to effectively complete job related tasks. Troubleshoots directly with the vendor as needed, and is able to describe the issue over the phone and identify the probable cause of the issues so that correct parts can be ordered directly by the vendor.
- Identifies common themes in issues in rooms and/or equipment and provides recommendations on how to avoid in the future, new equipment to be ordered, rearrangement of equipment in room etc. to maximize utilization and efficiency.
- Serves as a resource for OR staff, and monitors compliance with safety practices associated with use of electronic surgical equipment at all times.
- The CES will setup and operate electronic surgical equipment according to manufacturers recommended guidelines and hospital procedures at all times.
- Maintains good communication with entire IT team to identify and coordinate with Biomed for any necessary repair issues that may arise. Constantly monitors the broken equipment cart for any repair issues.
- The CES will make sure that their equipment is clean and ready for use each day. After each case the equipment is cleaned and returned to the appropriate storage areas and prepared for next day use. The CEIS will assist with the movement of equipment to the appropriate OR in a timely manner. The CES will order, maintain, and inventory adequate levels of supplies necessary for operation of surgical lasers, navigation, and robotics.
- When required, assists surgeons with bedside fiducial placement prior to scheduled case for use with all on-site surgical navigation systems.
- Demonstrates cost-effective use of supplies and of own time and others time. Maintains patient privacy and dignity, and maintains patient's right of confidentiality in all communications.
- Demonstrates compassion and sensitivity to patients, families, visitors, and other staff. Is courteous to others and promotes mutual respect.
- Anticipates needs of customers and assumes responsibility for solving customer problems. Works effectively as a team member and maintains a positive relationship and open communication with other team members.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Bachelors degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience related to computer technology. Minimum of four (4) years experience in handling of clinical equipment within PeriOperative service. Strong verbal communication skills and reasoning ability. Strong leadership qualities and ability to network within a complex environment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products and Microsoft Windows Operating Systems. One year experience in equipment testing, repair, and/or manufacturing is required. Prior experience in a customer service related role is desired. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
