This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Learn more Major Duties/Responsibilities: The Gastroenterologist duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment or consultative services to both inpatients and outpatients presenting with gastrointestinal and liver disease. Perform a wide range of endoscopic procedures in upper/lower GI tract to include EGD, colonoscopy, and sigmoidoscopy, with therapeutic procedures as needed. Perform specialty procedures as delineated in their clinical privileges. Interpret capsule endoscopy and esophageal manometry. Work with and instruct internal medicine residents and gastroenterology fellows in outpatient and inpatient settings, and provide appropriate feedback on their performance. Engage in direct patient contact and works collaboratively with staff and other physicians. Participate in continuing medical education (as defined by licensure), and quality assurance activities. Participate in quality improvement projects, peer reviews and additional committee appointments as directed by Chief of Service Use the highest degree of good judgment, ethical behavior, and professional demeanor always in the incumbent's contacts with patients, his peers, and all other employees. Supervision/training of students/residents/fellows. Other duties as assigned. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: Annual leave at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period; Sick leave at the rate of four (4) hours per biweekly pay period; 10 paid Federal holidays per year. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years' vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement). Incentive: EDRP student loan repayment up to $200K for eligible debt. Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory. CME: Possible $1,000 per year stipend + possible 1 week paid authorized absence to attend. Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided. Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
