The John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit is seeking a full-time Primary Care Provider (either Internal Medicine or Family Medicine). Our hospital is closely affiliated with Wayne State University School of Medicine with campuses adjacent to each other. The VA Hospital serves a primary partnership role in medical education of students, residents, and fellows, as well as in clinical and basic medical research. The physician has responsibilities for the evaluation, care, and disposition of patients, ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, determining needs for hospitalization or transferring the patient to another facility. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Providing direct hands-on patient care; Assessing patients for acute illnesses and determine whether patients need to be admitted to the hospital or managed in the outpatient setting; Managing chronic diseases; Providing clinical guidance over the phone, by Secure Messaging and through mail; Ensuring accurate documentation of medical assessments and observations; Coordinating hand-off communication. Other activities assigned by the supervisor Primary duties will be to function and provide primary care services in the outpatient setting in the Pontiac Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) located in Pontiac, Michigan; Based on the clinical needs of primary care service, the provider could also work in the John D. Dingell VA Medical center located in Detroit, MI, Canton CBOC located in Canton, MI, and Veteran's Community Resource and Referral Center (VCRRC) located in Detroit, Michigan. This also includes working with students and residents to model excellence in patient care and contributes significantly to the education program of our students and residents. Also provide collaboration to nurse practitioners. Participation in clinical research both at the VA Hospital and the Wayne State University General Medicine Division will be encouraged. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday from 7:30 to 4:00pm for four days a week; 9:30am to 6:00pm one day a week; one Saturday a month form 8:00am to 4:30pm of which the Selectee will be off on the Monday the Provider (Physician) works on Saturday.
