The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible and accountable for the delivery of nursing care to Veterans in the Durham VA Specialty Care Clinics or PACT. The incumbent has the knowledge and skills necessary for carrying out the practical nursing care assignment with patients ranging in age from young adulthood to the senior years of life. The LPN will work under the direction of the RN and report to the Medicine Specialty Clinics Nurse Manager. Position may be filled at the GS-3-6. Duties include, but are not limited to: Patient intake Assisting with minor procedures, including obtaining and arranging necessary equipment, positioning patients, ensuring comfort and privacy - monitoring patient during the procedure Provision of direct nursing care to patients with an emphasis on patient teaching and interventions, such EKGs and phlebotomy Documentation of care activities Perform procedures, treatments and delegated tasks Medication administration and oxygen therapy Clinical reminders with appropriate consults and alerts as indicated Cleaning and reprocessing of reusable medical equipment Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday through Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm, may also include some nights, weekends, and holidays. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. Mechanical inpatient lifts are provided. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations, operative/invasive procedures, or home settings. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment.
