This position is located in the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service (Pathology or P&LMS) at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System (SLVHCS) in New Orleans. The Health Technician (Specimen Collection/Specimen Processing/Employee Drug Testing) will perform phlebotomy, specimen collection, specimen processing, preparation and storage of specimens, packaging of specimens for transport to the Pathology Laboratory etc. o Phlebotomy and Procurement of specimens from patients. o Collection of Drug Screens following all Chain of Custody regulations and protocol. o Specimen accessioning. o Specimen processing, pre-analytic assessment and test performance. o Quality control, documentation and instrument maintenance. o Identifies quality control variations and initiates corrective action to correct the problem within established guidelines. o Maintains phone etiquette and provides problem solving for advising other laboratory personnel or healthcare workers on the appropriate collection and handling of specimens. o Waived testing, including (but not limited to) Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) and Urine Pregnancy Testing (UPT). o Ensures all appropriate documentation is entered into the patients' records. o Performs repeat or additional tests to clarify or confirm abnormal test results. o Verifies lab reports identifying sample results and determinable factors. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (Rotating Weekends & Holidays); Hours: 05:00am-1:30pm, 07:00am-3:30pm, 08:00am-4:30pm, 09:30am-6:00pm, 10:30am-7:00pm; Full-Time. Telework: Not Available.
