Position is located in the Physical Therapy Department of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS) in the VA Caribbean Healthcare System Ponce Out-Patient Clinic (POPC). The Physical Therapist (PT) performs comprehensive assessments and provides treatment that promotes the prevention, remediation, and rehabilitation of acute and chronic physical and psychosocial dysfunction. Major Duties include: Evaluation, documentation and treatment interventions of patients admitted to Physical Therapy Services. Providing guidance/supervision to Physical Therapy Assistants. Providing guidance/supervision to Physical Therapy trainees. Serves as a Clinical Instructor, to include planning, scheduling, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating the student's clinical affiliation. Incumbent is responsible for student orientation, instruction, and counseling. Reviews objectives and goals of the student's affiliation and plans learning experiences accordingly. Incumbent evaluates the student's performance and participates in school-medical center conferences regarding students or curriculum and may advise other clinical instructors and their students regarding complex medical/surgical problems. Provides in-service and clinical training in the rehabilitation area to physical therapists and other healthcare professionals. Functions as a mentor in the field of physical therapy and provides specific instruction and training to students and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Maintains expertise through attendance at professional meetings and literature review. Monitors program operations for quality issues considering access to care, cost effective operations and a safe and healthy environment to promote maximum patient and staff welfare. Presents and implements ideas for program development and strategic planning within the physical therapy section. Prepares productivity and service reports as required by the Service/ Section. Complies with standard operating procedures for cleaning and disinfection of reusable medical equipment as established in service guidelines. Submits requests of supplies and equipment following service policies and procedures. Reports noted deficiencies in service delivery, safety and security. Contributes with ideas to improve operations. Participates in drills and practices infection control precautions. Participates in information and outcomes management activities such as, but not limited to: surveys, performance improvement and strategic plan development. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. May be required to work on holidays or weekends. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
