The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota is seeking a psychologist or neuropsychologist at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank on an academic track. The University of Minnesota has an established autism clinic and research program and is committed to delivering high-quality services that inform and are informed by research. We partner with other departments and colleges within the University on research related to early risk, medical co-morbidities, transition services, and understanding autism prevalence. The position involves a scholarly track that may include research, grant writing, or training.
This position involves an appointment in the Autism and Neurodevelopment Clinic. The majority of effort will be dedicated to clinical services, with the opportunity to contribute to or develop research. The position is part of the University of Minnesota's new center for clinical research on brain development, the Masonic Institute on the Developing Brain (MIDB). MIDB brings together researchers, clinicians and educators, as well as policy and public health experts with the goal of addressing early and adolescent brain health to improve their collective impact and increase the speed of discovery.
Position Highlights:
- Provide psychological and neuropsychological evaluation of children and adults with suspected or previously diagnosed autism.
- Provide supportive communication with family members, school and other providers involved in the child's care. Position entails performing in-depth evaluations, written and oral feedback to families, related providers, and schools regarding test results and recommendations for treatment and educational planning.
- Provide treatment group and parent-mediated interventions for autism
- Provide supervision of trainees
- Contribute to research on young children at risk for autism and related conditions
- Participate in team conferences and provide consultative services on and off site.
- Collaboratively work as a positive, constructive team member.
- Focus is placed on intervention and assessment, as well as providing consultation to health practitioners and parents in regard to behavioral management and parent/child relationship issues.
- Additional job activities include conducting various outreach activities for the medical professional community and participating in seminars and various other didactic experiences.
About the Department:
Autism and Neurodevelopment Clinic is a multidisciplinary clinic that brings together a campus and community-wide collaboration of clinicians, researchers, and families to foster excellence in clinical care for individuals and families with autism. The clinic is housed within the Division of Clinical Behavioral Neuroscience and brings together experts in pediatric psychology, neuropsychology, developmental disabilities, and behavioral disorders. Our specialty is to deliver comprehensive evaluations and treatment services for individuals with complex care needs.
About the Division:
The Division of Clinical Behavioral Neuroscience is comprised of three sections: Pediatric Psychology, Pediatric Neuropsychology, and Autism and Neurodevelopment.
All members of the Division are committed to research, often involving collaboration with faculty members in the Department of Pediatrics, or other areas of the University, to advance understanding of normal and abnormal neurological function. Because of the broad commitment to Clinical Neuroscience, we expect to enhance all programs through the addition of new faculty members as well as the increase in service, educational and research endeavors over the next few years.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or a Psy.D. in clinical psychology, school psychology, or counseling psychology from an APA and/or CPA accredited program, internship training, and minimum 1-year post-doctoral training in pediatric psychology or neuropsychology is required.
- Licensed or ability to acquire medical license and in the State of Minnesota, and meet threshold criteria/qualifications for credentialing and privileges.
- Strong diagnostic skills required.
- Excellent organizational skills, good oral and written communication skills and computer proficiency are required.
- Work independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- We are particularly interested in individuals who want to contribute to or develop clinical research on autism
- Research-level training on diagnostic measures for autism, including ADOS and Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R). Be willing to train to reliability on both measures.
- Experience conducting group or individual interventions with autism
- Interest in working with complex patients with autism (severe autism, autism with co-occurring medical or mental health conditions)
